The Jordan Honda 198 was the Formula One car used by the Jordan Grand Prix team in the 1998 season. Designed by Gary Anderson, it marked the team’s first use of Mugen-Honda engines. Ralf Schumacher, in his second F1 season, drove the car alongside teammate Damon Hill.

At the 1998 Australian Grand Prix, held at Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit, Ralf Schumacher qualified 12th and finished 5th, earning two championship points. It was a solid start to the season for both the German driver and the Jordan team, highlighting the potential of the new Honda-powered package despite reliability and performance issues that would persist in the early part of the year.

At the 1998 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Damon Hill drove the Jordan Honda 198, in what was a pivotal race for the team. Hill qualified 9th and finished 6th, earning a single championship point. The race was notable for being held in wet conditions and for its chaotic ending, including Michael Schumacher’s controversial win.

For Hill and Jordan, the result showed modest progress. The Jordan 198, powered by the Mugen-Honda V10 engine, had struggled earlier in the season with reliability and competitiveness. Hill’s point at his home Grand Prix contributed to building momentum that would culminate in the team’s first-ever win later that year in Belgium.

At the 1998 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, Ralf Schumacher drove the Jordan-Honda 198 and delivered a strong performance. He qualified 8th and finished 6th, scoring one championship point. The race was held at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari and was marked by high attrition and strategic battles.

Schumacher’s result highlighted gradual improvement in the Jordan 198 package, powered by the Mugen-Honda V10 engine. Despite early-season reliability issues, the team was beginning to extract more consistent performance. Ralf’s pace and maturity contributed to Jordan’s building momentum during the mid-phase of the 1998 season.

At the 1998 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, Damon Hill drove the Jordan-Honda 198 but retired from the race due to a throttle problem. He had qualified 10th, showing mid-grid pace, but mechanical issues continued to hamper the team’s early-season progress.

The Jordan 198, equipped with the Mugen-Honda V10 engine, was still struggling with reliability and competitiveness at this stage of the season. Hill’s retirement at Imola reflected the challenges Jordan faced in translating potential into consistent results during the first half of the 1998 Formula One campaign.
