About the Ferrari 250 GTO

The Ferrari 250 GTO, produced from 1962 to 1964, is widely regarded as one of the most iconic and valuable classic cars in automotive history. Designed as a race car, the 250 GTO was built to dominate the GT racing category and boasted a 3.0-litre V12 engine that delivered around 300 horsepower. With a top speed of roughly 174 mph (280 km/h) and a 0-60 mph time of around 5.4 seconds, the 250 GTO was exceptionally fast for its time and performed exceptionally well on both track and road.

Only 36 units of the 250 GTO were built, making it one of the rarest Ferraris, and each car was tailored with slight differences in bodywork and design, further enhancing its exclusivity. Its smooth, flowing body was designed by either Sergio Scaglietti or Giotto Bizzarrini (who also engineered the car) and has become an enduring symbol of 1960s Italian automotive design. The car’s balance of aerodynamics, handling, and powerful V12 engine allowed it to achieve remarkable success in racing, winning numerous championships and placing Ferrari firmly at the pinnacle of GT racing.

Today, the Ferrari 250 GTO is highly coveted among collectors, with models selling for tens of millions at auctions, making it one of the most valuable cars ever. Its combination of racing heritage, beauty, and rarity solidifies its place as an icon in both the history of Ferrari and the world of classic automobiles.
