Description

The 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans was one of the most dramatic confrontations in motorsport history — a battle between Ferrari and Porsche conducted at speeds that had never been seen at the Circuit de la Sarthe, with the 512S and the 917 pushing each other to the absolute limits of what their engineering could sustain across a full day and night of racing. Ferrari developed the long tail body specifically for Le Mans, its elongated rear reducing drag to extract every possible kilometre per hour along the Mulsanne Straight where the battle between the two manufacturers was most visible and most dangerous. The SEFAC-entered 512S long tails represented Ferrari’s most determined assault on a race the Scuderia needed to win.

The pairing of Derek Bell and Ronnie Peterson in the No. 7 car brings together two men who would each become legends of the sport in very different ways. Bell would go on to win Le Mans five times, becoming the definitive British endurance driver of his generation; Peterson, already establishing himself as one of Formula 1’s most electrifying natural talents — “SuperSwede” to his fans — brought his extraordinary car control to one of the most physically demanding events in the racing calendar. To see their names on the same entry is to glimpse a particular moment in 1970 when the worlds of endurance and Grand Prix racing still regularly overlapped in the cockpits of cars like this.

Tecnomodel’s 1:12 resin model captures the No. 7 long tail 512S at approximately 36cm in length — a scale that allows the full drama of the car’s proportions, from its wide haunches to the sweeping extended tail, to be appreciated in a way that smaller scales cannot match. Produced as a limited edition of just 43 pieces worldwide, mounted on a leather display base and supplied with a display case.

Understanding Scale

The scale of a model is its size as a proportion to the real-life item. For instance, a 1:18 scale model means that every 1 unit of measurement on the model equals 18 units on the real item. If you divide the real item's size by 18, you'd get the size of the 1:18 model. Please note that models can vary slightly in size, as not all real-life items, like cars or planes, have the same dimensions.

Model Cars:

  • 1:12 scale: ~38 cm or 15 inches
  • 1:18 scale: ~25 cm or 10 inches
  • 1:24 scale: ~18 cm or 7 inches
  • 1:43 scale: ~10 cm or 4 inches
  • 1:64 scale: ~7 cm or 2.75 inches
  • 1:76 scale: ~6 cm or 2.3 inches

Model Trucks:

  • 1:12 scale: ~75 cm or 29.5 inches
  • 1:18 scale: ~50 cm or 19.7 inches
  • 1:24 scale: ~38 cm or 15 inches
  • 1:43 scale: ~21 cm or 8.3 inches
  • 1:64 scale: ~14 cm or 5.5 inches
  • 1:76 scale: ~12 cm or 4.7 inches

Model Bikes:

  • 1:6 scale: ~30 cm or 12 inches
  • 1:10 scale: ~18 cm or 7 inches
  • 1:12 scale: ~15 cm or 6 inches
