Description

The 24 Hours of Le Mans 1955 is one of the most significant and most sobering events in motorsport history — a race conducted under the shadow of the catastrophic accident in which Pierre Levegh’s Mercedes 300 SLR was launched into the spectator enclosures, resulting in the deaths of Levegh and more than 80 onlookers. Despite enormous pressure to abandon the race, the organisers and many teams continued to compete through the night and into the following day, with Jaguar’s D-Types ultimately contesting the finish. Bill Spear and Phil Walters, associated with Briggs Cunningham’s American racing programme, shared the No. 9 D-Type Longnose through the full distance.

The Jaguar D-Type Longnose’s extended aerodynamic nose, developed to maximise straight-line speed on the Mulsanne Straight, was central to Jaguar’s Le Mans strategy, and the Cunningham-entered cars were among the most professionally prepared private entries of the era. CMR’s 1:18 diecast model captures the No. 9 car in British Racing Green at approximately 24cm in length with a highly detailed sealed bodyshell, presented with display base in a CMR windowed display box.
