Description

The Ferrari 250 GTO is widely regarded as the most desirable car ever built — a homologation special that paired a race-bred chassis with hand-formed Scaglietti aluminium coachwork, produced in tiny numbers purely so that Ferrari could contest the FIA’s GT category. Chassis 3987GT, wearing No.1, took overall victory at the 1000 Kilometres of Paris at Montlhery in 1962, one of a string of results that established the GTO’s total dominance of international GT racing in the early 1960s.

Beneath that curvaceous body sat Ferrari’s 3.0-litre Colombo V12, fed by six Weber carburettors and driving through a five-speed gearbox — a specification that made the GTO both a genuine front-line endurance racer and a car of extraordinary beauty. Just 36 were built between 1962 and 1964, and surviving examples are today among the most valuable cars in the world, changing hands for tens of millions. Kyosho’s 1:18 diecast recreates the No.1 Paris-winning car at approximately 24cm in length, with opening doors, bonnet and engine cover, and a display base.
