Petter Solberg is one of rallying’s great characters. He was World Rally Champion with Subaru in 2003 and later won the FIA World Rallycross Championship twice, in 2014 and 2015. When Subaru withdrew from the WRC at the end of 2008, Solberg kept his career going by running his own privately entered Citroen Xsara WRC in 2009. The Xsara was the car that carried Sebastien Loeb to his first three world titles, and it suited Solberg’s committed, crowd-pleasing style.
Gymkhana Grid was co-founded by Ken Block with DC Shoes. It brought rallycross and drifting stars together with amateur drivers on a symmetrical course of tight corners, barrels, tyres and containers. Each driver made a timed run on each side of the course, and the best aggregate times advanced through a knockout bracket. In 2016 the event was held at Marathon in Greece, and Solberg returned to the Xsara WRC to win the all-wheel-drive class. The Xsara uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder of around 310bhp, with four-wheel drive and a short 2,555mm wheelbase, which made it ideal for gymkhana.
Sun Star’s Petter Solberg Signature Edition shows the No.11 Xsara in its black and red Gymkhana Grid livery, with opening doors and bonnet. It comes with a separate 1:18 figure of Solberg in his race suit and is presented in a windowed box. Production is limited to 999 pieces.
