The MG Metro 6R4 was Austin Rover’s answer to Group B, developed with Williams Grand Prix Engineering. Instead of following its rivals with a turbocharged engine, it used a bespoke 3.0-litre naturally aspirated V6, the V64V, mounted behind the front seats and driving all four wheels. In international specification it produced more than 410bhp, while the 200 or so Clubman road cars built for homologation had around 250bhp. Tony Pond took a works car to third on the 1985 Lombard RAC Rally behind two Lancia Delta S4s.
When Group B ended in 1986, the 6R4 began a long second career on the tarmac rallies of Ireland and Britain. Few drivers were more closely linked with it than John Price, the Welsh driver known as “The Boss”, whose career covered some 50 years and 859 events. Price won the West Cork Rally in a Metro 6R4 in both 1992 and 1993. At the 1993 Shell Donegal International Rally, run from Letterkenny, he started at No.7 with co-driver Anne Marie Smith in the blue and yellow Duckhams livery that made his cars familiar on Irish stages. That Donegal run ended early, with retirement on the fourth special stage.
Sun Star’s 1:18 diecast model recreates the Duckhams car, registration EXI 1465. The doors, front compartment and rear engine cover open to show the detailed cockpit and the mid-mounted V6, and the model has working suspension. It is limited to 999 pieces.

Understanding Scale
The scale of a model is its size as a proportion to the real-life item. For instance, a 1:18 scale model means that every 1 unit of measurement on the model equals 18 units on the real item. If you divide the real item's size by 18, you'd get the size of the 1:18 model. Please note that models can vary slightly in size, as not all real-life items, like cars or planes, have the same dimensions.
Model Cars:
- 1:12 scale: ~38 cm or 15 inches
- 1:18 scale: ~25 cm or 10 inches
- 1:24 scale: ~18 cm or 7 inches
- 1:43 scale: ~10 cm or 4 inches
- 1:64 scale: ~7 cm or 2.75 inches
- 1:76 scale: ~6 cm or 2.3 inches
Model Trucks:
- 1:12 scale: ~75 cm or 29.5 inches
- 1:18 scale: ~50 cm or 19.7 inches
- 1:24 scale: ~38 cm or 15 inches
- 1:43 scale: ~21 cm or 8.3 inches
- 1:64 scale: ~14 cm or 5.5 inches
- 1:76 scale: ~12 cm or 4.7 inches
Model Bikes:
- 1:6 scale: ~30 cm or 12 inches
- 1:10 scale: ~18 cm or 7 inches
- 1:12 scale: ~15 cm or 6 inches
