Description

The AC Shelby Cobra 427 S/C is one of the most viscerally compelling automobiles ever built — a car of almost reckless honesty in which Carroll Shelby installed Ford’s 427 cubic inch side-oiler V8, producing around 485bhp in competition tune, into a lightweight AC Ace body that had been widened and strengthened to accept the enormous engine and the massive tyres necessary to put its power to the road. The result was a machine of spectacular performance for 1965 — a genuine 160mph road car capable of reaching 60mph from rest in well under five seconds — but also one that made no concessions to ease of use, placing enormous demands on its driver whilst rewarding those capable of exploiting it with an experience unavailable in any other car at any price.

The S/C designation — Semi-Competition — marks this as the most extreme road-legal variant of the Cobra 427, a car equipped for track use but theoretically usable on public roads, which in practice meant a machine of sufficient ferocity to have become one of the most legendary and widely replicated sports cars in automotive history. Red on the Cobra’s muscular, wide-arched body is a combination of elemental simplicity — two bold statements that require nothing further to make their point. Solido’s 1:18 diecast model captures the 427 S/C at approximately 23cm in length with openable front doors and working wheels. Officially licensed.
