Our RWB 1:18 scale models recreate Akira Nakai's widebody Porsche 911s, each build known by its own name. GT Spirit has made many RWB cars as sealed resin limited editions in 1:18 and 1:12, while Solido and Werk83 have produced 964 and 993 RWB Porsches in diecast. What Is RWB?
RWB stands for Rauh-Welt Begriff, German for rough world concept, and is the Porsche tuning house founded by Akira Nakai in Chiba, Japan. Nakai came from the Japanese tuning scene before concentrating on air-cooled 911s. The 964 and 993 generations are the most common donor cars, with some 930, 996 and 997 builds. Rather than shipping a kit, Nakai usually travels to the owner and fits the fibreglass arches by hand, cutting and riveting them to that particular car, and every finished car is given a name. That is why RWB models carry names such as Stella Artois, Natty Dread or Penthouse rather than a simple colour.
GT Spirit: Sealed Resin Limited Editions
GT Spirit has the largest RWB catalogue of any maker. Its models are sealed resin, numbered limited editions, so the doors and bonnet do not open, but the arches, rivets and wings are reproduced sharply. Over the years GT Spirit has covered well-known builds such as Stella Artois, Penthouse, Natty Dread and Army Girl, and themed cars inspired by anime, including Gundam and Son Goku. It has also made an RWB x Liberty Walk collaboration car; for more of Liberty Walk's work see our LB Works model cars. Selected RWB cars also appear in GT Spirit's larger 1:12 range.
Solido and Werk83: Diecast RWB Porsches
Solido, a sister brand of GT Spirit, makes RWB Porsches in 1:18 diecast at a more accessible level. Its range has included 993 builds such as the Jagermeister No.7 and Cinderella, 964 builds such as Natali, the Pink Pig, and a bodykit model with an Akira Nakai figure in his chair. Werk83 has made 1:18 diecast 993s from Sidney Hoffmann's RWB builds, including Furusato and Osechi.
Resin or Diecast?
GT Spirit's resin cars are limited runs with crisp detail and sealed bodies. Solido and Werk83 diecast cars are heavier and suit collectors building a wider RWB line-up. Most RWB models are 1:18, with some in 1:12, and our scale guide compares the two sizes. You can also browse the full range of Porsche model cars.
