Description
Carlos Sainz is one of rallying’s greatest champions — a two-time World Rally Championship title holder whose combination of flat-out speed and meticulous technical preparation made him one of the most formidable competitors the sport has ever produced. In 1997 he joined Ford’s works programme, becoming one of the key drivers tasked with demonstrating the potential of the newly developed Ford Escort WRC — a purpose-built rally car that represented Ford’s most serious and ambitious assault on the WRC since the sport’s modern era began.
The Rally de Catalunya was the ideal stage for Sainz’s abilities. A tarmac event held on the roads of his home country, it combined the technical demands of Spanish mountain stages with an atmosphere that made every Sainz appearance uniquely charged — the home crowd willing on one of Spain’s most beloved sporting figures. The Escort WRC, with its turbocharged four-wheel drive package and distinctive blue Ford livery, was never more evocative than in these surroundings.
Otto Mobile’s 1:18 resin model captures the Escort WRC in its 1997 Catalonia specification at approximately 25cm in length, individually numbered from a limited edition of 2,000 and officially licensed.
