Description

The 1983 World Rally Championship season was the year Audi’s all-wheel-drive revolution reached its most emphatic conclusion — Hannu Mikkola and Arne Hertz taking the drivers’ title in the Quattro A2, a car whose permanent four-wheel-drive system and turbocharged five-cylinder engine had, by this point, thoroughly rewritten the accepted understanding of what a rally car could be. The A2 represented a significant evolution of the original Quattro competition car, with revised aerodynamics, wider bodywork, and further development of the drivetrain package that had already made the Quattro so dominant in Group B rallying. The San Remo round brought the Quattros to the mixed-surface stages of northern Italy, one of the WRC’s most demanding and evocative events.

This Sun Star model is produced to coincide with and celebrate the 2024 Italian film Race for Glory: Audi vs Lancia, which dramatises the intense 1983 WRC season and the battle between Audi’s Quattro programme and Lancia’s Rallye 037 — a contest between four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive that ultimately settled the argument in favour of Mikkola, Hertz, and Ingolstadt’s engineers. The “Race for Glory parts” included with the model reference that story directly. Sun Star’s 1:18 diecast model captures the No. 5 car at approximately 25cm in length with openable doors, boot, and bonnet, working wheels and suspension, presented as a limited edition of 1,999 pieces. Officially licensed.
