Description

The Jaguar XJ6 Series III, launched in 1979, represented the third and most refined iteration of Sir William Lyons’ original XJ design — a saloon car whose fundamental proportions had proven so well-judged when it debuted in 1968 that successive development simply made it better rather than replacing it outright. The Series III benefited from Pininfarina’s involvement with the roofline, gaining a cleaner greenhouse and improved headroom without altering the car’s essential elegance, and Jaguar’s engineering team used the update to address the quality concerns that had sometimes troubled the Series II during the British Leyland years.

Powered by the 4.2-litre straight-six — the famous XK engine whose roots stretched back to the Le Mans-winning C-Types and D-Types of the early 1950s — the XJ6 Series III combined genuine performance with a refinement and ride quality that its contemporaries struggled to match at any price. In Dark Red Metallic, the long, low roofline and sculpted flanks of the Series III present with exactly the patrician authority the car’s character demands.
