Description

The Porsche 356A Speedster was created almost entirely at the suggestion of Max Hoffmann, Porsche’s influential American importer, who identified a market for a lighter, simpler, less expensive 356 aimed at the sports car enthusiasts and club racers who dominated early US Porsche sales. Introduced in 1954 and updated with the A specification in 1955, the Speedster stripped the 356 to its essentials — a low-cut windscreen barely taller than the dashboard, removable side curtains, a minimal folding hood, bucket seats, and an interior shorn of unnecessary weight. The result was a car of genuine purity that captured the hearts of American sports car enthusiasts immediately.
