What Makes a Car JDM
JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market, meaning cars built for sale in Japan. Collectors now use the term for Japanese performance cars in general, especially the 1990s and 2000s heroes from Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda and Honda, plus the Japanese tuning scene. That is why this category also includes Japanese widebody builds on European cars, such as LB-Works Porsche and McLaren models.
JDM Diecast or Resin
Solido is the place to start for JDM diecast cars, with 1:18 replicas of the R34 Skyline GT-R, Silvia S15, RX-7 FD and Impreza WRX STI. Otto Mobile and GT Spirit produce sealed resin models in numbered limited editions, often choosing rarer subjects such as the Toyota Century V12, Hiace Super GL and Impreza Sport Wagon. AUTOart uses composite, a mix of diecast and plastic, for its R34 GT-R V-spec II. An R34 GT-R is about 4.6 metres long, so it measures roughly 26cm in 1:18. For something larger, Kyosho and Otto Mobile offer 1:12 Skylines. Our scale guide explains each size.
Widebody and Tuner Builds
Widebody cars are a big part of this collection. Liberty Walk, founded in Nagoya by Wataru Kato, features on the Solido Nissan GT-R R35 Type 2 with a Kato San figure, the Solido GR Supra and GR86, and the LB-Super Silhouette S15 Silvia from GT Spirit and Top Speed. Pandem, the widebody line from Rocket Bunny designer Kei Miura, appears on the Otto Mobile Fairlady Z and the GT Spirit GR86, while Otto Mobile also offers a Rocket Bunny RX-7.
