The Real Machine
The Rocket Takes Flight: Why the Brabus 900 Rocket R is the Ultimate Statement of Automotive Excess
For the seasoned enthusiast in the UK, the Porsche 911 Turbo S is often considered the peak of sensible, usable performance. It’s a car so devastatingly fast that using launch control at a traffic light might inflict actual pain. Yet, for a select few—the “downright mad”—it was still lacking something. Enter Brabus with a simple philosophy: if some power is good, then far, far too much power must be better.
Brabus has long been synonymous with making already-rapid Mercedes models even faster. However, in recent years, the firm has expanded its empire, dabbling in everything from boats, bikes, and fashion, to—most controversially—Porsches. The 900 Rocket R marks the most extraordinary chapter yet in the BRABUS Rocket Legacy, built for the very first time on the coveted Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupé platform.
This vehicle is engineered for those who seek to grow beyond the ordinary, embracing relentless performance and an indelible statement of individuality. It is an exercise in pure excess: more speed, more carbon, more money. Production is severely restricted, making this a true collector’s item, with only 25 units destined to be produced worldwide.
The Brabus 900 Rocket R isn’t just tuned; it’s been fundamentally overhauled. At its core lies the twin-turbo flat-six engine, taken in hand by Brabus’s engine experts.
Out go the factory Porsche turbos, and in come a pair of larger VTGs (Variable Turbine Geometry) that crank the boost pressure up to an astonishing 1.9 bar. Coupled with an Inconel exhaust system and a remap, this delivers jaw-dropping outputs: 900 horsepower (662 kW) and 1000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque. The result is acceleration that belongs squarely in hypercar territory: 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds and 0-124mph in just 7.2 seconds.
The immediate visual impact comes from the outlandish Widestar body kit. While perhaps appearing brash in photos, the look is utterly jaw-dropping in person and brimming with detail. The custom bodywork is made entirely from high-grade carbon fiber and was fine-tuned using state-of-the-art wind tunnel technology.
Key features include a redesigned front fascia with carbon lip spoiler, Carbon Kevlar lining visible through extended wheel arches, and a dramatic rear with BRABUS WIDESTAR fascia featuring integral carbon fiber diffuser. The kit stretches the car’s width to nearly two metres (196.8 cm). The stance is completed by forged Monoblock P “PLATINUM EDITION” wheels—21 inches front, 22 inches rear—with carbon aero-discs.
Power delivery is managed via a switch on the wheel: Comfort mode keeps things surprisingly docile; Sport unlocks the full 900hp; Sport+ sharpens throttle and gearbox response for maximum aggression.
The BRABUS Inconel high-performance exhaust features electronically controlled butterfly valves, switching between subtle “Coming Home” mode and earth-shattering Sport mode. New BoostXtra diverter valves produce clearly audible blow-off noise with every throttle lift. The BRABUS sports suspension system employs custom coilover springs and fully adjustable shock absorbers, creating an ultra-low ride height for improved cornering dynamics.
If the exterior is about aggression, the interior is about uncompromising, bespoke luxury. Brabus decks out the cabin with what they call a BRABUS Masterpiece interior.
Particularly soft, high-quality leather covers virtually the entire cabin, featuring the unique BRABUS “Ellipse” quilting pattern. Carbon fiber elements are seamlessly integrated throughout, with BRABUS pedals made from anodized aluminum. Carbon fiber door sill trims feature integrated LED backlit Brabus logos that change colour with ambient lighting. This level of customization ensures the cabin feels more extravagant than any standard Porsche.
The Brabus 900 Rocket R exists because, for some enthusiasts, the ultimate performance car must also be the ultimate statement. This vehicle is not here to be sensible or understated; it is defined by its excess.
By applying their “Rocket” philosophy to the already hyper-capable Porsche 911 Turbo S, Brabus solidifies their modern identity as a tuner willing to modify prestigious brands beyond just Mercedes-Benz. As one enthusiast noted, the car is “totally pointless, over-the-top and stupid,” which is exactly why they love it. Limited to 25 units at around £475,126, the 900 Rocket R is the embodiment of high-performance luxury and magnificent madness.
