Ixo Expands Its 1:18 Le Mans Range with New Ford Mustang LMGT3 Models

Ixo Expands Its 1:18 Le Mans Range with New Ford Mustang LMGT3 Models

The latest additions to Ixo’s growing 1:18 Le Mans range have now arrived, and this time it is the unmistakable Ford Mustang LMGT3 taking centre stage.

These new releases are an exciting arrival for collectors, not only because the Mustang LMGT3 is one of the most eye-catching modern GT cars of recent years, but also because this is a completely new tooling from Ixo. That makes these models a particularly important addition to the brand’s expanding endurance racing line-up.

Even better, this first wave gives collectors three race-specific versions from the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans: the #44, #77 and #88 Ford Mustang LMGT3 entries. Each carries its own distinctive livery, race number and driver connection, making the set especially appealing for anyone building a modern Le Mans grid in 1:18 scale.

A Fresh New Tooling from Ixo

Ixo Expands Its 1:18 Le Mans Range with New Ford Mustang LMGT3 Models

One of the most important points about this release is that the Ford Mustang LMGT3 is not simply a variation of an existing casting. Ixo has developed new tooling for the car, allowing them to capture the shape, stance and character of the real Mustang LMGT3 properly.

This is a sealed diecast model with rollable wheels. Each model is presented in a windowed box and mounted on a plastic display base, with the model name printed on the base. It is a format that works well for collectors who want a strong display piece straight from the box, while still keeping the model protected and neatly presented.

The Mustang LMGT3 has a very different personality from many other GT3 cars. It is wide, muscular and instantly recognisable as a Mustang, but it also carries the modern aerodynamic features expected from a current-generation endurance racer. The low front splitter, flared arches, side aero, rear diffuser and large rear wing all give the car a purposeful competition look.

In 1:18 scale, that presence comes across very well. The car has a broad, aggressive stance and plenty of visual detail, particularly around the front end, side skirts, wheels and rear wing. Whether displayed on its own or alongside other Le Mans models, it has the kind of shelf presence that immediately draws attention.

Three 2024 Le Mans Versions

The first releases cover three Ford Mustang LMGT3 entries from the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, giving collectors a strong selection from the car’s debut year at the event.

The #44 car is finished in a bold yellow and black livery, making it one of the most visually striking versions of the Mustang LMGT3. Driven at Le Mans by John Hartshorne, Ben Tuck and Christopher Mies, this entry became part of a very strong showing for Ford and Proton Competition, finishing fourth in the LMGT3 class. For collectors, the #44 is a great choice if you want the brightest and most dramatic of the three liveries.

The #77 car brings a completely different look, with its blue, white and black livery standing apart from the other two releases. This car was raced by Ryan Hardwick, Zacharie Robichon and Ben Barker. It adds another important race-specific version to the line-up and gives collectors a second Proton Competition Mustang from the regular 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship programme.

The #88 car is perhaps the most significant from a results point of view. Finished in a smart black and gold livery, it was driven by Giorgio Roda, Mikkel O. Pedersen and Dennis Olsen. This car finished third in the LMGT3 class at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, giving the Mustang GT3 a podium finish on its Le Mans debut. That result makes the #88 a key release for collectors who like models with genuine race history behind them.

Together, the three cars make a very attractive display set. Each one has a different colour scheme, each represents a specific Le Mans entry, and each helps tell the story of the Mustang LMGT3’s first appearance at the world’s most famous endurance race.

Expanding Ixo’s Le Mans Collection

Ixo has been steadily strengthening its 1:18 Le Mans range, and the arrival of the Ford Mustang LMGT3 is another welcome step forward. The range now covers an increasingly broad selection of endurance racing subjects, from historic Le Mans machinery through to modern GT and prototype entries.

For collectors building a contemporary Le Mans grid, these Mustang LMGT3 models are especially useful. They add another major manufacturer to the display and bring a distinctly American flavour to the modern GT field. Parked alongside Ferraris, Porsches, Corvettes, Aston Martins, BMWs and other recent endurance racers, the Mustang stands out immediately.

The choice to produce all three 2024 Le Mans Mustang entries also shows how serious Ixo is about expanding this part of the range. Rather than releasing a single generic version, Ixo has given collectors multiple race-specific options from the same event. That is exactly the kind of approach Le Mans collectors appreciate, especially when trying to recreate a particular year or class line-up.

A Strong Le Mans Debut for the Mustang GT3

The real Ford Mustang GT3 made its Le Mans debut in 2024, competing in the new LMGT3 category. This class replaced the previous LMGTE structure in the FIA World Endurance Championship and brought GT3-based machinery into the world championship’s top endurance events.

For Ford, the Mustang GT3’s arrival at Le Mans was a major moment. The Mustang name is famous around the world, but seeing it adapted into a modern GT3 endurance racer gave the car a new competition identity. It was no longer just a road car icon; it was now part of the current Le Mans story.

The 2024 race proved to be a memorable debut. All three Mustang GT3 entries reached the finish, with the #88 taking a podium in third place and the #44 finishing fourth in LMGT3. That gave Ford and Proton Competition two cars in the top five of the class and immediately made the Mustang GT3 a serious subject for model collectors.

That race result gives these Ixo releases added importance. They are not just attractive new models; they represent the first Le Mans chapter for the Mustang GT3.

A Standout Modern GT Racer

The Ford Mustang LMGT3 has quickly become one of the most talked-about cars in modern GT racing. Its aggressive bodywork, low stance, wide arches and large rear wing make it one of the most recognisable cars on the grid.

Ixo’s 1:18 version captures the character of the car well. The long bonnet, compact cabin, muscular rear haunches and dramatic aero package all help give the model the right visual attitude. The Mustang does not look delicate or understated. It looks powerful, planted and ready for a 24-hour fight.

The liveries also add a lot of appeal. The yellow #44 is bright and energetic, the blue #77 is clean and sharp, and the black and gold #88 has a more premium, purposeful look. Because the three versions are so visually different, collectors may find it hard to choose just one.

The Mustang name also gives these models wider appeal. They are not only Le Mans models; they are Ford models, Mustang models, GT3 models and modern endurance racing subjects all in one. That makes them a strong choice for a wide range of collectors.

A Welcome Addition for Le Mans Collectors

Modern Le Mans collecting has become increasingly popular, especially with the strength of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the variety of manufacturers now involved. Ixo has clearly recognised this, and its expanding 1:18 range is becoming an appealing option for collectors who want to build a varied endurance racing display.

The Ford Mustang LMGT3 fits perfectly into that direction. It is current, distinctive and connected to a significant debut race for Ford. The fact that Ixo has used new tooling only adds to its appeal.

New tooling is always encouraging because it often opens the door for further versions in the future. With the Mustang GT3 now part of Ixo’s catalogue, there is clear potential for additional liveries, later race versions and future season releases. For collectors who follow race entries, teams and event-specific cars, that makes this release even more interesting.
