Description

The Jaguar D-Type arrived as the natural successor to the C-Type that had taken Jaguar to Le Mans victory in 1951 and 1953, its monocoque construction and aerodynamically developed bodywork representing a significant step forward in sports car racing design. The long-nose variant extended the car’s snout for improved penetration on the long straights of the world’s fastest circuits, and in the hands of the right drivers it was capable of winning at the highest level of endurance racing across the Atlantic as well as in Europe.

The 12 Hours of Sebring in 1955 — held on the former military airfield circuit in central Florida that remains one of American motorsport’s most storied venues — was won outright by Mike Hawthorn and Phil Walters in the D-Type Longnose. Hawthorn was already established as one of the fastest drivers in the world, his 1953 French GP win having announced him to a global audience; Walters, a gifted American driver associated with the Cunningham programme, provided local knowledge and pace in equal measure. CMR’s 1:18 diecast model captures the winning car in British Racing Green at approximately 24cm in length with a highly detailed sealed bodyshell, presented with display base in a CMR windowed display box.
