Description

The Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60 Special was one of the most significant American luxury cars of its era — a model that, when introduced in 1938 under the styling direction of Harley Earl, redefined what a large American saloon could look like. Lower, longer, and considerably more streamlined than its contemporaries, the 60 Special influenced American car design for years after its introduction and established the visual language that would come to define post-war luxury motoring. By 1941, the design had matured into one of the most elegant expressions of pre-war American automotive ambition, powered by Cadillac’s smooth 5.7-litre side-valve V8 and finished to a standard that placed it amongst the finest cars available anywhere in the world.

The light and dark green two-tone is one of the most handsome colour combinations applied to pre-war American luxury cars — a pairing that emphasises the 60 Special’s long, sweeping lines and gives the car a distinguished, almost formal presence entirely in keeping with its position at the top of American automotive society. The 1941 model year was among the last produced before wartime conversion ended civilian car production, lending these final pre-war Fleetwoods an additional layer of historical significance.
