Description

Bob Wollek was one of the most complete and accomplished Porsche endurance and sprint racing drivers of the 1980s — an Alsatian of enormous talent and competitive consistency whose results in Porsche machinery across the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft and international sports car racing placed him among the finest drivers of his generation. His DRM championship in 1983 with the No. 1 Porsche 956K was a result that demonstrated both the car’s extraordinary capability on shorter circuits and Wollek’s ability to manage a season-long campaign against determined opposition.

The Porsche 956K — the Kurzheck (short-tail) variant of the Le Mans-winning 956 — was developed specifically for circuits where the long-tail aerodynamics of the Le Mans car were unnecessary or disadvantageous, its more compact rear bodywork reducing drag while the ground-effect underbody and twin-turbocharged flat-six retained the performance that had made the 956 the dominant sports car of its era. The Norisring street circuit in Nuremberg, with its demanding concrete barriers and demanding braking zones, was a circuit where the 956K’s combination of power, downforce, and braking capability was devastatingly effective. WERK83’s 1:18 diecast model captures the No. 1 championship car at approximately 24cm in length with working wheels and a display base.
