Description

Bruno Giacomelli was one of Italian Formula 1’s most capable drivers of the early 1980s — a smooth, technically precise racer who gave the Alfa Romeo 179 some of its most impressive performances during the team’s return to the grand prix arena after nearly three decades away. His extraordinary drive from pole position at the 1980 United States Grand Prix West in Long Beach, where he led commandingly before a late retirement robbed him of what would have been a remarkable win, demonstrated that both Giacomelli and the Alfa were capable of competing at the very highest level when everything came together.

Monaco in 1980 placed Giacomelli on one of the calendar’s most demanding circuits — a race where the 179’s V12 characteristics and the driver’s precision over a lap made the combination a serious proposition through the streets of the Principality. Tecnomodel’s 1:18 resin model captures the car in its Monaco specification, limited to just 45 pieces — the rarest of the Monaco 1980 Alfa pair — mounted on a luxury leather display base with metal plaque and presented with a display case.
