For the 2023 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia, Audi brought the RS Q e-tron E2, a lighter and more aerodynamic version of its electric-drive prototype. It used a Formula E-derived MGU05 motor on each axle, a battery of around 52kWh and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder from the DTM as an on-board energy converter. Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz, running as number 207, made a perfect start. They won Stage 1 for Sainz’s 42nd Dakar stage victory and still led by 2 minutes 12 seconds after Stage 2.
The lead slipped away on Stage 3 to Ha’il when mechanical trouble struck, and a crash on Stage 6 cost more time. On Stage 9, six kilometres into the special, Sainz misjudged a dune and the car rolled end over end. Both crew members were unhurt, but Audi’s engineers found damage to safety-relevant parts that could not be repaired at the Haradh bivouac, and the crew withdrew before Stage 10.
Spark’s 1:43 scale resin model recreates the number 207 Audi RS Q e-tron E2 driven by Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz on the 2023 Dakar. It reproduces the low prototype body, the Audi Sport livery with crew names and sponsor graphics, and the large off-road wheels. Supplied on a display base under an acrylic case, it is officially licensed.
