Description

The Volkswagen Type 2 T1 Samba is the most celebrated and most sought-after variant of the first-generation VW Bus — a vehicle that, across its production life, became one of the most culturally significant automobiles of the twentieth century. The Samba distinguished itself from standard Type 2 variants with its extraordinary 23-window configuration, folding fabric sunroof, chrome detailing, and premium interior finish, making it the luxury passenger carrier of the Transporter range and the model most associated with the sun-drenched optimism of the late 1950s and early 1960s in which it flourished.

The T1’s rear-mounted air-cooled flat-four, the rounded bodywork, and the split windscreen of earlier examples gave way by 1962 to a refined and well-developed vehicle whose mechanical dependability matched its immediate visual appeal. In Regatta Blue the Samba’s considerable glazed area and chrome brightwork are shown to particularly attractive effect — a period colour that captures the car’s cheerful, unhurried character. Otto Mobile’s 1:12 resin model captures the Samba at approximately 36cm in length, individually numbered in a limited edition of 999. Officially licensed.
