Description

The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray is one of the most celebrated American automobiles ever produced — the first year of the C2 generation whose clean, muscular bodywork, designed by Bill Mitchell at General Motors, represented a quantum leap from its predecessor and produced a car whose visual impact has never faded in more than six decades since. The 1963 coupé is particularly prized for its split rear window, a distinctive styling detail that appeared for one year only before being deleted at the request of Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov on aerodynamic grounds, making the first-year car immediately identifiable and permanently desirable.

Beneath the Sting Ray’s sculpted body sat independent rear suspension — new for the 1963 Corvette — and a range of V8 engines culminating in the 327 cubic inch unit in various states of tune, giving the car the combination of American muscle and genuine chassis sophistication that made it competitive with European sports cars of the era. Sebring Silver Metallic takes its name from one of American endurance racing’s most celebrated venues, a colour that follows the Sting Ray’s long, low curves with the kind of understated authority that silver uniquely delivers.
