Description

The Audi Sport Quattro is one of the most significant and consequential cars in the history of motorsport — a short-wheelbase homologation special built in strictly limited numbers to qualify the car for Group B rally competition, the most extreme and dangerous category in the World Rally Championship’s history. With a 2.1-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine producing around 306bhp in road specification and considerably more in rally trim, coupled to the four-wheel-drive system that Audi had pioneered and their rivals were scrambling to match, the Sport Quattro represented the state of the art in performance car engineering in 1985. Only 224 road cars were built — a rarity that has made the Sport Quattro one of the most prized collector’s cars of the Group B era.

Tornado Red on the Sport Quattro’s squared-off, aggressive body — shorter and wider than the original Quattro — is a combination of elemental force: a colour that matches the car’s no-compromise character and the era of rallying in which it was forged. By 1985 Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, and Hannu Mikkola had demonstrated what the Sport Quattro could achieve on the world’s most demanding rally stages, and the road car’s performance reflected that competition lineage directly. Norev’s 1:18 diecast model captures the Sport Quattro at approximately 25cm in length with working wheels and display base. Officially licensed.
