Description

This GT Spirit GT947 model represents the 1993 Porsche 968 Turbo S, finished in yellow and produced in 1:18 scale resin. It is an officially licensed model, limited to 999 units, and supplied with a display plinth.

The Porsche 968 Turbo S was one of the rarest derivatives of the 968 series. Developed by Porsche Motorsport at Weissach, it was based on the lightweight 968 Club Sport but fitted with a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-four engine. Unlike the standard 968, which used a naturally aspirated 16-valve unit, the Turbo S used an 8-valve cylinder head related to the earlier 944 Turbo/S2 engine architecture. Output was around 300hp, with approximately 500 Nm of torque, giving the car performance well beyond the regular production 968.

Visually, the Turbo S was distinguished by features including bonnet NACA ducts, a deeper front spoiler, an adjustable rear wing, lowered suspension and three-piece Speedline wheels. It was built in very small numbers, with the Porsche 968 Register listing 14 Turbo S cars produced, alongside 4 Turbo RS cars.

The 968 itself was the final development of Porsche’s front-engined transaxle sports car line, following the 924 and 944. The Turbo S sat at the extreme end of that lineage: a short-run, motorsport-led version created for performance and homologation purposes rather than normal series production.
