Few drivers have reshaped Formula 1 quite like Lewis Hamilton. A seven-time World Champion and the holder of the sport's records for race wins and pole positions, he has spent nearly two decades at the front of the grid — and in doing so has become one of the most collected names in scale modelling. Our Lewis Hamilton model cars collection follows his entire journey, from a record-breaking rookie season to a new life in Ferrari red.

From Stevenage karting to McLaren

Born in Stevenage in 1985, Hamilton's talent was obvious early. He famously approached McLaren boss Ron Dennis as a ten-year-old kart racer and was soon signed to the team's young driver programme — an investment that would pay off spectacularly. After dominant junior campaigns in Formula Renault, Formula 3 and GP2, he arrived in Formula 1 in 2007 alongside double World Champion Fernando Alonso. He announced himself immediately, finishing third on his debut at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne and stringing together a run of early podiums that few rookies have matched. He carried the fight to the very last race and ultimately missed the title by a single point.

A first world title, and the McLaren years

Redemption came in 2008. In one of the most dramatic finales the sport has ever produced, Hamilton needed fifth place at a rain-lashed Interlagos and claimed it at the last possible moment, passing Timo Glock at the Juncao corner on the final lap to take the championship from Felipe Massa by a single point — at the time the youngest champion in F1 history. The seasons that followed brought further victories in the papaya-and-chrome McLaren, among them wins in Canada and a first triumph in China, yet the arrival of Red Bull's dominant era meant a second title would have to wait. That frustration prompted the boldest decision of his career.

Mercedes and a record-equalling seven titles

That decision came in 2013, when Hamilton left McLaren to join Mercedes — a move widely questioned at the time, and vindicated almost immediately. As the sport entered its turbo-hybrid era, Mercedes became the benchmark and Hamilton its standard-bearer. His breakthrough came in 2014, when eleven victories carried him to the title at the Abu Dhabi finale and made him the first Mercedes World Champion since Juan Manuel Fangio in 1955. A second Mercedes crown followed in 2015, and then a remarkable run of four in a row from 2017 to 2020 carried him level with Michael Schumacher on seven titles. The seventh was sealed with a masterful wet-weather victory at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, driven from sixth on the grid in the all-conquering W11. Along the way he passed Schumacher's long-standing records for race wins and pole positions, and was knighted for his services to motorsport. The 2021 season brought a season-long duel with Max Verstappen that went to the final lap of the final race — a title lost in the most controversial of circumstances, but a campaign that only deepened his standing among the sport's greats.

A new chapter with Ferrari

After more than a decade and six championships with Mercedes, Hamilton announced the move few believed they would ever see: a switch to Scuderia Ferrari from 2025, pulling on the most famous colours in motorsport in the later stages of a glittering career. The partnership rewarded the tifosi early, Hamilton taking pole and a commanding win in the Sprint at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai — his first victory in Ferrari red, and his first in the sprint format. It is a chapter that has captured the imagination of collectors and tifosi alike, and one our range follows closely as each new release arrives.

The Hamilton models to collect

For collectors, Hamilton's career offers an unusually rich seam of iconic machinery. The championship-winning McLaren MP4-23 of 2008 remains a cornerstone of any collection, its silver-and-red livery instantly evoking that final-lap drama in Brazil. The all-conquering Mercedes cars of the hybrid era — from the W05 that delivered his 2014 title through to the near-flawless W11 of 2020, regarded as one of the finest Formula 1 cars ever built — are among the most sought-after modern F1 models, with the special one-off liveries and race-winning chassis especially prized. His 2025 Ferrari SF-25 marks the newest chapter and is already in demand. We stock these across the scales, from pocket-sized 1:43 up to detailed 1:18, produced by the leading names in the field including Spark, Minichamps, Bburago and LookSmart. Alongside the cars, our scale replica helmets capture the ever-changing designs that have become a signature of each of his seasons.
