The Supermarine Seafire, an icon of the skies and soon to be the star of your Airfix workshop, is making a triumphant comeback to our collection after being absent for a decade.

The Seafire XVII marked the first in its lineage to sport a trimmed rear fuselage and a distinctive teardrop-shaped canopy. It had the capacity to carry an expanded arsenal, made possible by a sturdier construction. This variant, equipped with fuel tanks and rockets under its wings, served on the battlefront until the early 1950s, at which point it transitioned into a training role.

Considering the Navy’s response to the widely cherished Spitfire, this marvel took the world by storm with its unparalleled performance under challenging circumstances. It proved adept at launching from and landing on aircraft carriers, an asset that enabled it to assert a commanding presence over both land and sea. Its wings folded to ensure rapid takeoffs and safe landings on naval vessels, expanding its operational radius over the waters.

The breathtaking design emphasised speed and agility, with its sleek, aerodynamic shape embodying sophistication and enhanced maneuverability. This Seafire could achieve maximum speeds of about 378 miles per hour (608km/h), providing pilots with a resolute upper hand.

Understanding Scale

The scale of a model is its size as a proportion to the real-life item. For instance, a 1:18 scale model means that every 1 unit of measurement on the model equals 18 units on the real item. If you divide the real item's size by 18, you'd get the size of the 1:18 model. Please note that models can vary slightly in size, as not all real-life items, like cars or planes, have the same dimensions.
