At an RRP of £89.99, the Bburago 1:18 scale Ferrari 812 Competizione offers impressive value for money, particularly given the level of detail and functionality included. This officially licensed model comes presented in a distinctive red Ferrari-branded box, complete with attractive artwork of the car, making it a solid choice for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The model is available in two colour options – the classic Rosso Corsa and the sleek Grigio Competizione – both of which suit the aggressive yet elegant lines of the 812 Competizione. The paint finish is generally very good, with a vibrant, glossy appearance. While minor imperfections are visible on close inspection, this is not unexpected at this price point and does little to detract from the model’s overall visual appeal.

Functionality is a standout strength: the model features full openings – bonnet, doors, and boot – and working suspension on all four corners, offering a smooth and realistic articulation. The wheels both rotate and steer freely, adding to the model’s playability and realism.

The interior detailing is commendable, with a well-sculpted dashboard and seats, although the absence of a carpeted effect is notable. That said, this could be an ideal area for aftermarket customisation. A particularly nice touch is the Ferrari tread plate in the door sills – a detail often overlooked in models at this price level.

Externally, the carbon fibre decal work is very effective, especially as it continues onto the underbody. The underside itself is a highlight: while modern supercars tend to have flat, sealed undertrays for aerodynamic efficiency, Bburago has managed to recreate this faithfully, incorporating venting and diffuser streaks to good effect.

The engine bay is another strong point, featuring a glossy red engine cover and a satisfying level of carbon fibre detailing. For the price, the headlight detail is surprisingly refined, and while the front grille is not made from photo-etched metal, the textured effect convincingly mimics a perforated finish.

Underbody detail

Overall, this Bburago Ferrari 812 Competizione is a compelling proposition for both seasoned collectors and newer enthusiasts. It delivers a respectable level of accuracy in terms of proportions and dimensions, thoughtful detailing, and excellent functionality – all at a very accessible price. While there are some compromises typical of mass-produced diecast models, these are relatively minor in the context of the model’s strengths. A well-rounded addition to any modern Ferrari collection.
