Description

Porsche’s first outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, achieved in 1970 with the No. 23 917K driven by Richard Attwood and Hans Herrmann, is one of the defining moments in the marque’s motorsport history — the culmination of years of effort and near-misses at La Sarthe by a manufacturer whose commitment to the event had been total and whose reward, when it finally came, was absolute. The 917K — Kurzheck, or short-tail — produced around 580hp from its air-cooled 4.5-litre flat-twelve and had been developed specifically to work on the Mulsanne Straight and through the technical sections that defined Le Mans lap time.

Hans Herrmann had competed at Le Mans across a career that spanned the 1950s and 1960s without achieving overall victory; the 1970 race was his final Le Mans appearance, and he won it — one of motorsport’s most satisfying stories of perseverance ultimately rewarded. Richard Attwood brought British Formula 1 experience and endurance racing commitment to a partnership that managed the full 24-hour distance with the composure that a historic first victory demanded. WERK83’s 1:18 diecast model captures the No. 23 winning car at approximately 25cm in length with working wheels, presented with a display base.
