Description

The 1998 Belgian Grand Prix produced one of the most extraordinary and memorable images in Formula 1 history. Following a collision with David Coulthard that punctured his tyre, Michael Schumacher drove the stricken Ferrari F300 back to the pits with the rear tyre completely destroyed — grinding the bare wheel rim into the tarmac of Spa-Francorchamps across an entire lap on effectively three wheels, the sparks flying, the car lurching, and Schumacher refusing to give up until he had reached the garage. It was a moment of pure, focused determination that perfectly encapsulated the German’s extraordinary will to compete.
