Historical Context:
The USS New York (BB-34) was the first ship of the New York-class battleship and the fifth to bear the name in honor of New York State. Constructed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, it was launched in 1912 and commissioned in 1914. The USS New York played a significant role in naval operations, from the Tampico Incident and the invasion of Vera Cruz to its service in British waters during World War I where it performed escort missions. Post-war, the ship was involved in training, fleet exercises, and underwent modernization in 1925. Prior to and during World War II, the USS New York was engaged in neutrality patrol tasks in Europe, provided artillery support in the North Africa campaign, and was active in convoy duties in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. In 1945, it was transferred to the Pacific Fleet, participating in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and surviving a kamikaze attack. Post-war, it served in Operation Magic Carpet before being used as a target ship in Operation Crossroads in 1946, eventually being retired and sunk in July 1948.

This model kit celebrates the illustrious service of the USS New York, offering naval enthusiasts and modelers alike a detailed replica of this historic battleship, complete with hull details, deck patterns, and photo-etched parts for an authentic build.

Understanding Scale

The scale of a model is its size as a proportion to the real-life item. For instance, a 1:18 scale model means that every 1 unit of measurement on the model equals 18 units on the real item. If you divide the real item's size by 18, you'd get the size of the 1:18 model. Please note that models can vary slightly in size, as not all real-life items, like cars or planes, have the same dimensions.
