The Toyota Hilux is the most successful machine in modern Dakar history, developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing and its partners into a purpose-built T1+ category cross-country racer. Beneath the production-derived silhouette sits a tubular spaceframe chassis, long-travel independent suspension and a turbocharged V6 powering all four wheels through a sequential gearbox. The platform is engineered for thousands of kilometres of dune crossings, fast pistes and rocky stages, and has carried multiple crews to overall Dakar victories. The 2023 specification benefited from updated aerodynamics and chassis revisions introduced for the T1+ regulations.

At the 2023 Dakar Rally, held across Saudi Arabia over two weeks of marathon stages, the No.231 Hilux of Dumas and Delfino tackled the full route against a deep field of factory Toyota, Audi, Prodrive and privateer entries. The crew brought the car home in 22nd place overall in the car category, completing one of the most attritional editions in recent memory.
