Description

The 1961 Italian Grand Prix at Monza is one of the most dramatic and tragic events in Formula 1 history. The race was overshadowed by the accident that claimed the life of Wolfgang von Trips and claimed the championship for Phil Hill — but Stirling Moss, driving for Rob Walker’s private team in a Lotus 21, was as ever a compelling presence throughout a weekend of extraordinary intensity. Moss was at the peak of his considerable powers in 1961, his performances in underpowered privateer machinery against factory opposition remaining among the most celebrated feats in the sport’s history.

The Lotus 21 in Rob Walker’s dark blue livery is one of the most evocative images of early 1960s Formula 1 — a great driver, an independent team, and a car that punched far above its weight. Spark’s 1:43 resin model captures the No. 28 car at approximately 10cm in length, presented with a display case and base.
