Description

Add a Group 4 era rally icon to your collection with the Audi Quattro No.0 Audi Sport Rali Urbibel Algarve 1980. This officially licensed replica represents the Audi Sport entry, driven by Hannu Mikkola and Arne Hertz.

The Audi Quattro was developed by Audi to demonstrate the potential of permanent four-wheel drive in competition, a concept long dismissed by the rallying establishment. Powered by a turbocharged 2.1-litre inline-five and built around the brand’s quattro driveline, the car was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1980 ahead of its homologation for international rallying the following year. The Algarve outing in late 1980 served as an early public running of the car before its full WRC debut at the 1981 Monte Carlo Rally. Mikkola, already a former Monte and 1000 Lakes winner, was central to Audi’s rally programme, paired with long-time co-driver Arne Hertz. The Quattro would go on to redefine the sport, taking Audi to manufacturers’ and drivers’ world titles and ushering in the four-wheel-drive era.

At the Rali Urbibel Algarve in 1980, the Quattro ran as car No.0, the course-opening entry that traditionally runs ahead of the competitive field. The outing gave Audi Sport an opportunity to test the new four-wheel-drive concept against the timing of a live rally without contesting for points, with Mikkola and Hertz reporting back on how the car behaved on the mixed-surface Portuguese stages. The performance shown over the event helped confirm that the Quattro’s traction advantage would translate into a meaningful competitive edge once homologation was complete.

Made by Spark in 1:43 scale, this resin model measures approximately 10.5cm and comes mounted on a branded display base with a clear acrylic cover. The body is sealed in the typical Spark fashion, allowing the focus to remain on shut lines, decals and stance, with photo-etched and printed details reproducing the period rally specification. At 1:43 it sits naturally alongside other Spark and similarly scaled rally releases.

A strong choice for Audi collectors, fans of Hannu Mikkola and enthusiasts of the early Group 4 and Group B rally era who want to document the Quattro’s first public competitive appearances.

Understanding Scale

The scale of a model is its size as a proportion to the real-life item. For instance, a 1:18 scale model means that every 1 unit of measurement on the model equals 18 units on the real item. If you divide the real item's size by 18, you'd get the size of the 1:18 model. Please note that models can vary slightly in size, as not all real-life items, like cars or planes, have the same dimensions.

Model Cars:

  • 1:12 scale: ~38 cm or 15 inches
  • 1:18 scale: ~25 cm or 10 inches
  • 1:24 scale: ~18 cm or 7 inches
  • 1:43 scale: ~10 cm or 4 inches
  • 1:64 scale: ~7 cm or 2.75 inches
  • 1:76 scale: ~6 cm or 2.3 inches

Model Trucks:

  • 1:12 scale: ~75 cm or 29.5 inches
  • 1:18 scale: ~50 cm or 19.7 inches
  • 1:24 scale: ~38 cm or 15 inches
  • 1:43 scale: ~21 cm or 8.3 inches
  • 1:64 scale: ~14 cm or 5.5 inches
  • 1:76 scale: ~12 cm or 4.7 inches

Model Bikes:

  • 1:6 scale: ~30 cm or 12 inches
  • 1:10 scale: ~18 cm or 7 inches
  • 1:12 scale: ~15 cm or 6 inches
