Description

The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is one of the most celebrated road cars in the history of the motor car — a homologation special produced in sufficient numbers to satisfy the Group 4 racing regulations, which required 500 examples, and which turned out to be so desirable that Porsche built more than 1,500. The RS took the 911 formula and stripped away everything that was not essential: thinner steel for the body panels, lightweight glass, the deletion of sound deadening and rear seats, a smaller battery — producing a car some 150 kg lighter than the standard 911 S it was based upon. The 2.7-litre flat-six engine, bored out from the 2.4, produced 210 PS in the lightest car Porsche had offered for road use, and the result was a machine of extraordinary responsiveness and involvement.

The white and green colour combination — white body with the Carrera script in green along the flanks and matching green detailing — is the most iconic of the RS’s livery options, a graphic treatment whose simplicity and boldness has made it one of the most recognisable in automotive history. The ducktail rear spoiler, integrated into the engine lid, completed a visual package that needed no further embellishment.
