Description

Before Lewis Hamilton became a Formula 1 driver, he was something rarer still — a talent so obviously extraordinary that McLaren structured their entire driver development programme around him and gave him the keys to their 2006 race car to prepare for a debut season that would rewrite the record books. The Silverstone test in 2006, in which Hamilton drove the McLaren Mercedes MP4/21, was part of that meticulous preparation — a young driver from Stevenage in a car that would go on to fight for that year’s championship, learning the circuits, the tyres, and the team that would carry him to his first World Championship title just twelve months later.

The MP4/21 was a significant development in McLaren’s evolution under Adrian Newey’s successors, and Hamilton’s test laps in it are part of the foundation of one of Formula 1’s greatest careers. Limited to just 468 units and presented on a display base, this Minichamps 1:18 diecast model captures that historic test at approximately 25cm in length — an essential piece for Hamilton collectors that documents the moment before everything began.
