Description

The Ford Orion Mk.II occupied an important and well-understood place in the British family car market of the late 1980s — a notchback saloon built on the Escort Mk.IV platform that gave buyers the familiar running gear and driving experience of the Escort in a body with a proper separate boot, satisfying those for whom practicality and a degree of formality mattered as much as the hatchback’s convenience. In a decade when Ford dominated British car sales with a thoroughness that its competitors could only observe with frustration, the Orion was a consistent and popular presence on British roads.

The RS Package transformed the Orion’s rather measured appearance into something considerably more purposeful — body-coloured bumpers, side skirts, and the visual language of Ford’s RS performance lineage applied to a family saloon in a way that appealed strongly to the British buyer who wanted their practical car to look as though it meant business. In black, the RS Package Orion carries a particular presence, the dark colour absorbing the details of the bodykit and presenting the car as a clean, aggressive whole. MCG’s 1:18 diecast model is produced as a UK-exclusive right-hand drive edition at approximately 24cm in length with rollable wheels.
