Description

The McLaren P1 GTR is the track-only distillation of the P1 hypercar — a machine produced in just 45 examples for buyers who wanted everything the road car’s combined 903 PS hybrid drivetrain could offer, freed from the last remaining concessions that road registration demands. Unveiled in concept form at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August 2014 — in the grey livery that this model faithfully replicates — the P1 GTR wore a more extreme aerodynamic package than the road car: a fixed rear wing generating substantially more downforce, revised front splitter, lowered ride height, and slick tyres on wider tracks that transformed the already extraordinary P1 into something closer to a Le Mans prototype in its handling balance and structural loads.

The Pebble Beach reveal was perfectly judged — announcing the GTR on the Monterey Peninsula, amongst the most rarified gathering of automotive enthusiasts in the world, before an audience that understood precisely what it was looking at. The grey of the concept car gave the P1 GTR’s complex surfaces a studied restraint that offset the aggression of the aerodynamic bodywork, the colour suggesting controlled intent rather than theatrical excess. GT Spirit’s 1:8 resin model — at approximately 60cm in length, a substantial and commanding display piece — is produced as an individually numbered limited edition of 200 pieces worldwide, presented with display case.
