Description

The Ford Capri RS 3100 was one of the most charismatic Group 2 touring cars of the mid-1970s — a racing machine built on the Capri coupe’s attractive fastback body and equipped with the Essex 3.1-litre V6 engine and the aero package, including the distinctive rear spoiler, that distinguished it from its road-going counterparts. Ford’s Cologne motorsport operations poured significant resource into the ETCC campaign with the RS 3100, positioning it as direct competition for the BMW CSL “Batmobile” that had come to dominate European touring car racing in the same period.

Rolf Stommelen and Jochen Mass were among the finest German racing drivers of the era — Stommelen a vastly experienced campaigner in Formula 1 and sports cars, Mass a talent on the rise who would win a Formula 1 Grand Prix the following year. Their shared No. 5 Capri RS 3100 at Zandvoort in the 1974 ETCC brought two drivers of genuine quality to a car that demanded commitment and precision. WERK83’s 1:18 diecast model captures the No. 5 car at approximately 25cm in length with openable doors, working wheels, and display plinth.
