Description

The 1952 and 1953 Formula 1 World Championships were contested under Formula 2 regulations, and Ferrari’s response was the 500 F2 — a car so comprehensively dominant in those two seasons that Alberto Ascari won back-to-back championships with a consistency that had no precedent in the sport’s brief history. The 500 F2’s 4-cylinder 2.0-litre engine, designed by Aurelio Lampredi, combined reliability with sufficient power to outrun everything the opposition could muster, and the car’s handling balanced the demands of the varied circuits on the calendar with impressive consistency.

Mike Hawthorn was among the most exciting young British drivers to emerge in the early 1950s — a flamboyant, naturally gifted racer who had already announced himself with a memorable victory at the 1953 French GP, where he and Fangio staged a wheel-to-wheel battle that remains one of Formula 1’s most celebrated moments. His appearance in No. 8 at the British GP at Silverstone placed him among the finest drivers of the era in one of the sport’s greatest cars. CMR’s 1:18 diecast model captures the No. 8 car in Rosso Corsa at approximately 20cm in length with a highly detailed sealed bodyshell, presented with display base in a CMR windowed display box.
