Description

Having dominated the 1952 season, Alberto Ascari returned with the Ferrari 500 in 1953 to defend his championship in an environment where the opposition had worked hard to close the gap. The season was more closely fought — Fangio, Hawthorn, and the Maserati challenge ensuring that Ascari could not simply repeat the procession of the previous year — but the Italian remained superior when it mattered most. Victory at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone was the fifth of his seven wins across the two championship campaigns, and it demonstrated that the combination of driver, car, and team remained the most complete package in Formula 1.

Ascari’s driving style — smooth, precise, and uncommonly rapid in wet or difficult conditions — was ideally suited to the Silverstone layout, and his No. 5 car in Rosso Corsa crossed the line first as part of a championship defence that ended, as in 1952, with the title firmly in Italian hands. CMR’s 1:18 diecast model captures the winning car at approximately 20cm in length with a highly detailed sealed bodyshell, presented with display base in a CMR windowed display box.
