Description

Few road cars carry a provenance as immediately recognisable as this one. The black Ford Escort RS Turbo registered C462 FHK was Princess Diana’s personal car during the mid-1980s — her own runabout rather than an official Royal vehicle, chosen as a reflection of her personal taste rather than any institutional requirement. That she selected the RS Turbo, Ford’s most driver-focused hot hatchback of the period, said something about the woman behind the public image; the choice of black rather than the standard white finish made the car unique even among a model produced in limited numbers.

The MK3 RS Turbo was the first incarnation of Ford’s turbocharged Escort — a genuine performance car developed with motorsport input that produced around 130bhp from its 1.6-litre CVH engine and was distinguished from standard Escorts by its deeper front spoiler, side skirts, and alloy wheels. Diana’s example has since been sold at auction where it achieved significant sums, its combination of historical importance and physical rarity making it one of the most personally significant production cars of its decade.

MCG’s 1:18 diecast model is a right-hand drive edition capturing Diana’s actual car, registration C462 FHK, at approximately 25cm in length, presented with a display base.
