Description

Peter Collins was one of the most popular and naturally talented British drivers of the 1950s — a Ferrari works driver whose easy charm and genuine speed made him a favourite both within the team and among the racing public. His victory at the 1958 British Grand Prix at Silverstone in the Ferrari Dino 246 was the highlight of his season and put him momentarily in contention for the World Championship, the win at his home race demonstrating the quality that had made him Ferrari’s trusted number one alongside Mike Hawthorn.

The victory was Collins’ last. He was killed three weeks later at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, an accident that robbed the sport of one of its most admired figures at the age of 26. The Silverstone win in Rosso Corsa stands as his finest moment in Formula 1 — a British driver, driving for Ferrari, winning in Britain at the height of his powers. CMR’s 1:18 diecast model captures the winning Dino 246 at approximately 21cm in length with a highly detailed sealed bodyshell.
