Description

The Ford Capri 3.0S in Strato Silver is one of the most evocative British television cars of the 1970s — the machine driven by Bodie and Doyle across the action sequences and car chases that defined “The Professionals” during its original run on ITV. The series, which starred Lewis Collins and Martin Shaw as the two operatives of the fictional CI5 intelligence unit, was built around a combination of hard-edged drama and the kind of tyre-smoking pursuit sequences that required a genuinely capable car. The Capri delivered: its 3.0-litre Essex V6, rear-wheel drive, and long bonnet gave it exactly the character the show needed.

The Capri Mk3 was launched in 1978 — the same year the show hit its peak popularity — and the 3.0S represented the pinnacle of the range. Ford marketed the Capri throughout its production life as “the car you always promised yourself,” and the association with “The Professionals” gave that promise the kind of aspirational backing that no advertising campaign could have manufactured. For a generation of British viewers, the silver Capri was as much a part of the show as Bodie’s coat or Cowley’s Glasgow accent.
