Description
The Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso is widely considered one of Pininfarina’s finest achievements — a grand touring coupé of such elegant proportion and harmonious design that Sergio Pininfarina himself regarded it as among the studio’s most complete works. Introduced in 1962 and produced until 1964 in a run of 350 examples, the Lusso — the name simply means luxury in Italian — represented Ferrari’s attempt to offer a more refined, road-focused companion to the racing 250 GTO, sharing the magnificent Colombo-designed 3.0-litre V12 but clothed in a body shaped for long-distance grand touring rather than outright competition. The distinctive Kamm tail, the generous glasshouse, and the elegantly curved flanks gave the Lusso a visual character entirely its own within the 250 family.
The interior matched the exterior’s ambition — significantly more refined than the racing 250s, with a leather-trimmed dashboard and proper accommodation for two adults and their luggage, making the Lusso the most usable of all the 250 variants in daily life. Steve McQueen was among those who recognised its qualities, owning one of the 350 examples during his lifetime. In Blue the Lusso takes on a colour that suits its elegant proportions with quiet distinction.
