Description

The Ford Sierra Cosworth 4×4 represented the mature, refined expression of what the Sierra RS Cosworth programme had been working towards — a car that combined the turbocharged 2.0-litre Cosworth engine’s 220bhp output with a Ferguson four-wheel drive system that transformed its usability in challenging conditions. Where the earlier rear-wheel drive Sierra Cosworths demanded considerable driver respect in the wet, the 4×4’s torque distribution made its performance accessible in all weathers without compromising the fundamental character that had made the Cosworth variants so desirable.

Introduced in 1990 and distinguishable from its predecessors by its wider bodywork, revised rear spoiler, and four-wheel drive hardware, the Sierra Cosworth 4×4 was both a credible road car and the basis for the works rally programme that competed at the highest level of the World Rally Championship. In Metallic Dark Red it presents as one of the more distinctive colour choices for a car most commonly seen in white or silver, the deep finish suiting the 4×4’s wider, more planted stance.
