The W17 is Mercedes-AMG’s challenger for the first season of Formula 1’s overhauled technical regulations, which introduce 50/50 combustion/electric power units running on fully sustainable fuels alongside active aerodynamics and revised chassis dimensions. Developed at Brackley and Brixworth, the car continues the lineage of the W-series that has anchored the Silver Arrows since the team’s return to the sport. It carries forward the partnership with title sponsor PETRONAS and forms the basis of Mercedes‘ campaign to return to the front of the grid under the new ruleset. The chassis was built around the new power unit architecture and the regulatory shift towards more efficient, lighter packaging.

At the Japanese Grand Prix 2026, the W17 competed against the rival Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren and Aston Martin entries around the Suzuka circuit. George Russell brought the No.63 car home in fourth place, a result that contributed valuable points to Mercedes’ constructors’ tally at one of the most technically demanding venues on the calendar.
