Description

Add a Group B era rally icon to your collection with the Audi Quattro No.1 2nd Rallye Monte Carlo 1982. This officially licensed replica represents the works Audi entry that finished second on the opening round of the 1982 World Rally Championship, driven by Hannu Mikkola and co-driver Arne Hertz.

The Audi Quattro was developed to exploit the FIA’s newly permitted four-wheel-drive regulations in international rallying, pairing a turbocharged inline-five engine with a permanent all-wheel-drive transmission. Introduced for the 1981 season, it quickly demonstrated that four-wheel-drive traction would render rear-drive rally cars obsolete on loose and mixed surfaces. Hannu Mikkola was central to the programme’s development, and the Quattro went on to take the WRC manufacturers’ title in 1982. The car remains one of the most influential designs in rally history and a defining model of the early Group B era.

At the 1982 Rallye Monte Carlo, the Quattro faced strong competition from the Opel Ascona 400, Lancia Stratos, Porsche 911 SC and a host of factory and privateer entries on the demanding mix of dry tarmac, snow and ice in the Alpes-Maritimes. Mikkola and Hertz brought car No.1 home in second place overall, an important early-season result for Audi as it set out to challenge the established two-wheel-drive rally order.
