Eurocopter SA 365/AS 365 Dauphin 2 Helicopter Model Kit Overview

The Eurocopter SA 365/AS 365 Dauphin 2 is a versatile, medium-weight, twin-engine helicopter with a rich lineage. Initially produced by Aerospatiale and later by Eurocopter (now known as Airbus Helicopters), the Dauphin 2 has seen several significant variants, including the military Eurocopter Panther, the HH/MH-65 Dolphin, the Harbin Z-9 produced in China, and the advanced Eurocopter EC155.

AS 365N Dauphin 2: An Enhanced Version

The AS 365N, initially designated SA 365N, represents a substantial upgrade over the original SA 365C Dauphin 2. The first prototype took to the skies on March 31, 1979, showcasing a host of improvements:

  • Uprated 492 kW Arriel 1C turboshaft engines
  • A retractable tricycle undercarriage
  • Enlarged tail surfaces
  • Overhauled transmission, main rotor, rotor mast fairing, and engine cowlings
  • An initial Maximum Take-Off Weight (M.T.O.W.) of 3,850 kg, later increased to 4,000 kg Production models began delivery in 1982.
