The Ford GT40 was a GT racing car launched by Ford Motor Company to win endurance races against Ferrari. It was simply named Ford GT at the beginning and later renamed GT40. The 40 represented its height of 40 inches. After the first two years of gaining experience, the GT40 Mk.IIs which were equipped with Ford 7.0 liter engines started to burst out with incredible power in 1966. They won at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Months later, they took all three top finishes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, stopping Ferrari’s five-year-long rule of this race. The Ford GT40 went on to win the race for the next three years.

Kit Information

This MENG RS-003 Ford GT40 Mk.II ’66 Champion (Pre-colored Edition) is a large 1/12 scale precision pre-colored mode kit officially licensed by Ford Motor Company. This pre-colored kit features pre-colored parts which do not require gluing or painting. This kit includes complete suspension system, power system, cab interiors and front trunk interiors. The vehicle’s precision details are represented by parts of various materials. This kit also features openable doors, front trunk cover and engine hood, as well as movable wheels and suspension system. The steering wheel is linked to the front wheels. This kit reproduces the Ford GT40 Mk.II No. 2 driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amun at the 1966 Le Mans 24-hour endurance race.

  • The black and white livery of the Le Mans champion car is exquisitely represented.

  • The model’s doors, front trunk cover and engine hood are openable.

  • The right door, which has to be raised because of the driver’s height, is an important symbol of car No. 2.

  • Thanks to the electroplated parts and silver colour parts, the wheel rims have different metallic textures. The tires are produced by quality vinyl material.

  • The unique cab interiors of this 1960s racing car are represented by electroplated parts and fine decals.

  • The quick-change brakes are accurately reproduced. The time needed to change those brakes during the race was greatly reduced.

  • The spare wheel is fixed by belts and buckles. The belts made of special fabric material is not only realistic, but also easy to assemble.

  • The engine bay is precisely reproduced. The output of the specially tuned 7.0L V8 engine exceeds 500 horsepower.

  • The complex pipelines are replicated by soft vinyl parts which are easy to install.

  • The taillights made of red transparent parts are more eye-catching on the black vehicle.

Understanding Scale

The scale of a model is its size as a proportion to the real-life item. For instance, a 1:18 scale model means that every 1 unit of measurement on the model equals 18 units on the real item. If you divide the real item's size by 18, you'd get the size of the 1:18 model. Please note that models can vary slightly in size, as not all real-life items, like cars or planes, have the same dimensions.
